📘 Definition
Space Situational Awareness (SSA) — increasingly called Space Domain Awareness (SDA) in military contexts — encompasses tracking all objects in orbit, predicting their trajectories, assessing collision risks, detecting new launches and breakup events, and monitoring the space environment (radiation, debris flux). The US Space Surveillance Network (SSN) is the primary global SSA provider, tracking 47,000+ objects. ESA, the EU (EUSST), Russia, China, Japan, and commercial providers like LeoLabs and ExoAnalytic also maintain SSA capabilities.
